February is TRiO month! TRiO is the name collectively given to a series of equal opportunity educational programs funded through grants from the U.S. Department of Education. Upward Bound, one of the oldest TRiO programs, was established more than 40 years ago. A big reason for TRiO month is to spread the word about TRiO and educate people on the importance of college access programs.

Our students are doing their part to promote TRiO awareness this month. During our January Saturday Session, students learned all about TRiO programs, and they teamed up to create and prepare a “media blitz” to educate the community about TRiO programs and Upward Bound. Students created press releases to go out to local newspapers, radio stations, and various media outlets. They also developed a Social Media campaign to get the word out about TRiO. We will be inviting local news stations to come to our Saturday Session in February and talk to our students about Upward Bound. Keep an eye out for our students’ work this month and help us spread the word!
