The 16th Annual WV TRIO Student Leadership Conference was held March 10-12 at the Days Hotel Flatwoods Conference Center in Flatwoods, WV. The theme for this year’s conference was “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!: Journey into Leadership.” We selected seven students from our program to attend this year: Rebecca Harden, Maddison Lucas (Juniors-Lincoln); Chris Reed, Nagyaleeya Conrad (Sophomores-Lincoln); Destiny Lusk (Sophomore-Liberty); Christen Burner (Junior, South Harrison), and Lydia Smallwood (Sophomore-South Harrison).

Students attended eight different dynamic leadership workshops led by “Paradigm Shift,” learned about TRIO programs and advocacy, and completed a community service project by making Easter baskets for homeless children. They also had the opportunity to practice networking by meeting students from other TRIO programs throughout West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland and Ohio. During the awards banquet, our program was proud to honor Rebecca Harden with the Anne Crum Leadership Award which came with a $200 scholarship! Afterwards, students let loose on the dance floor to celebrate a fantastic weekend!
