2025 UB SUMMER SESSION | Week 2

Welcome to another week of the 2025 Upward Bound Summer Session! It's no longer rainy, but it is very hot and humid. Hope everyone's staying hydrated out there! Thankfully, here at UB, we have a few water activities planned for the week to stay nice and cool!

Without further ado, let's hop into UB summer week 2!

Monday 6/23

We started the week getting to talk with Upward Bound Alumni! The wonderful Anthony McDaniels, Erin Fogg, Joe Mazzie, Hunter Tenney, and Owen Howes sat before us as we sat where they once did. They told us about their experiences in the program and how it's helped them throughout their lives. We greatly appreciate them taking time out of their evenings to come and talk with us!

Tuesday 6/24

Next up... THE SLAYER GAMES! Brought to us by one of our beloved summer assistants Shayla (aka Slayla or The Slayer)! What is the Slayer Games you ask? Well, it's capture the flag but with water guns and water balloons. We got to pick between three roles: Flag Seeker, Filler, and Medic. Flag seekers were the primary attackers, their goal was to get through the field and capture the enemy flag, fillers were responsible for refilling guns, and medics were who you went to after getting shot (where you'd have to wait for a minute before going back out on the field).

There were two teams: Spiderman vs Hulk. Chris (Chippy/Chuck) was team Hulk, and Izaiah was team Spiderman. Chuck created a whole game plan for his team. He turned a simple game into a whole military operation. I'm not joking. And Izaiah brought a powerful water gun. I wish he hadn't lol.

Chuck's War Plan. I told yall he had a whole war plan.

Wednesday 6/25

Like every Wednesday, us Seniors went on a morning career trip! This time around we toured Pierpont's' Aviation and Caperton campuses! During the trip we got to learn a little of what they do there, and even get in a helicopter and small jet! Down at Caperton, we got to see their physical therapy, veterinary, and early elementary facilities. Overall, it was nice to get to see their campuses and hear about how they do it there.

As for our evening activity, it was perfect for a nice hot day. What better way to spent it then... going to the movies and mall... again... Yep. TIME TO SPEND MORE MONEY I AIN'T GOT!

Unfortunately, Splashzone cancelled on us due to weather, so we went to the mall and movies again. This time, Elio was added to the list of potential picks. Almost everyone went and saw it! In my opinion, it was a really fun and cute movie with great themes (I may be saying this cause I'm a little biased to Pixar movies, but you have no proof)!

Thursday 6/26

Thursday night was our summer dance! We got to wear whatever, but it was prompted for us to wear superhero themed outfits. People did not disappoint! Because it happened in the Tigers Den, we were able to play pool, ping pong, air hockey, or just relaxed on the many comfy couches.

Now I wasn't here for this, so, I decided to go out and get my peers opinion on the dance.

Alex said, "It was really fun. I enjoyed doing the macarena circle." I'll take her word for it!

That's all this week! I hope everyone has a good weekend!
